This forum was created for educational and enrichment purposes... no advertising. All of the postings here have been vetted via scholarly research. New Videos and Reports
Four animated short films have been created by award-winning filmmaker David Shenk and are narrated by David Hyde Pierce [formerly an actor on Frazier]. The four topics are named, What is Alzheimer's disease, An Urgent Epidemic, The Race to the Cure, and A Message for Patients and their Families. Written in laymen's terms, the films are intended to help professionals as well as friends and family members understand the essence of the disease. To download, http://www.aboutalz.org/ or http://www.agingresearch.org/. The films were developed by the Alliance for Aging Research with funding from the MetLife Foundation. The Alzheimer's Association has released a new statistical report on the disease and may be accessed at www.alz.org/national/documents/report_alzfactsfigures2008.pdf. Do you want to know more about the impact of older workers on the workforce? the U. S. Department of Labor has released the Report of the Taskforce on Aging of the American Workforce. This report may be of interest to older individuals and human resources specialists. Available at www.agingsociety.org/agingsociety/publications/public_policy/taskforce.pdf. Are you a nurse or working in a hospital setting? A 30-minute movie details the administration of the Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living, an assessment tool to measure an older adult's capacity to care for her or himself. It is available at http://links.lww.com/A241.
