Hi Readers,
Those of you who have been
following this blog for a while know that my most asked questions are about
normal aging and memory “loss.” Folks, memory loss is not normal at any age. Although
companies selling supplements advertise their products for “preventing normal
age-related memory loss,” that approach is not ethical or accurate.
One of the best resources for
learning about normal aging is the National Institutes of Health [NIH],
National Institute on Aging [NIA], within the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services. The resources are free, timely, and accurate. I recommend
getting on their mailing list and reviewing their newsletters to learn about
successful aging and the latest research.
The website link below has
many valuable resources on normal aging and cognitive decline. I recommend
watching the video on forgetfulness.
Takeaway: Cognitive slowing, aka
delayed recall, is absolutely normal as people age. Memory LOSS is never normal
at any age. Losing the remote is normal. Picking up the remote and asking, “What
is this thing?” is not normal.
