Events and Aging News! November 2026

Hi Readers, November is here and in the USA, our circadian rhythms are adjusting to waking up an hour later. November is also an opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease and the needs of care partners (aka “caregivers").

Check out events of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) and the Caregiver Action Network. The AFA is holding a special event on Friday, November 6, titled, “The Caregiver’s Armor.” Check it out! Alzheimer's Disease: Welcome to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America  As my readers know, caring for a person with cognitive changes brings about challenges and blessings. The Caregiver Action Network has dozens of valuable resources for friends and family members. Here is the link: Caregiver Action Network: Resources for Family Caregivers

A special thank you to my colleague and fellow gerontologist, Dr. Harry “Rick” Moody, for sending his monthly aging resources for November. He has authored a new book on the power of dreaming in later life. It is available for PRE-ORDER at Amazon in print, audiobook, and Kindle and ships November 17. I am looking forward to learning about my wild and crazy dreams!  Here is a blurb from the Amazon site:

“Drawing on more than fifty years of research, teaching, and personal dreamwork, Dr. Harry R. Moody reveals how dreams can support psychological development and spiritual insight after midlife. Unlike the early phases of life, the second half often unfolds without clear direction. Moody shows how dreams can offer an inner roadmap for navigating aging, identity, and mortality.

With more than 100 case studies and personal accounts, Moody details how dreams reflect the key stages of aging. He explores midlife transitions, late-life depression, illness and caregiving, and the inner work of grief, forgiveness, and life review. Presenting a range of dream types, including recurring dreams, nightmares, and symbolic dreams, Moody explains their relevance to healing and self-understanding. He also provides tools for how to access the unconscious dimensions of your aging process and identify where change may be needed.

This book offers a practical framework for engaging with the unconscious as you grow older. By treating dreams as a form of guidance, you can uncover unfinished emotional work, strengthen your sense of purpose, and reclaim the imagination as a vital force for personal transformation.

CONFUCIUS AT SEVENTY

"At fifteen I was committed to learning.
At thirty I took my rightful position.
At forty, I was no longer totally perplexed.
At fifty, I began to understand the unfolding of my true nature.
At sixty, I was in harmony with contradictions and ambivalence.
A seventy, at long last, I may follow my heart's desire without going astray."

-Confucius at the age of seventy

From Dr. White: 70 doesn’t seem so old to me anymore.
