Age-Friendly Cities
The World Health Organization [WHO] has recently identified 35 cities in 22 countries that are age-friendly urban cities. It is the first research study identified with the older population and their public health needs. Over 1500 participants ranked eight areas including community support and health services, information availability, employment and civic opportunities, respect, social participation, housing, transportation, and outdoor spaces/buildings. The importance of the study is widespread. It serves as a checklist for cities with the goal of improving age-friendliness and a relocation guide for those searching for age-friendly cities. A copy of the report can be downloaded at www.who.int/ageing/publications/Global_age_friendly_cities_Guide_English.pdf
