Age Doc Credentials
When seeking an aging specialist, it is ESSENTIAL that you check and verify credentials. Do you know that anyone can hang out a gerontologist shingle? There is no credentialing authority among gerontologists, as most of us are in academia rather than working in communities. As more of us move from academia to communities, this could change. To circumvent this situation, a gerontologist should have a PhD specializing in the older population. I have found gerontologists whose only experience/expertise is a high school diploma with a short stint as a nursing home aide. So my pearls of wisdom: Be careful about who you hire. More later.
