Dying Americans in the Prime of Life Increasing

Adults in the prime of life are dying at higher rates than twenty years ago, according to a scientific study sponsored jointly by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The study findings attributed the rising death rates to drug overdoses, alcohol, suicides, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, lack of mental health services, and obesity. Based on the study findings, the “working-age mortality crisis” researchers have recommended a national response and “urgent policy actions to address the overdose epidemic, underlying causes of substance abuse, access to mental health services, and stronger efforts to tackle obesity.” Read the article below. This link also provides a summary and detailed slides and maps.
